COMMUNITY BASED WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT
Karamojo Safari's core activity is Community Based Wildlife Resource Management.
Our main area of operation is Karamoja, in North-Eastern Uganda, but our Safaris do take our visitors to a number of other stupendous destinations in Uganda.
Through a Cooperative Management Agreement with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and the Districts of Moroto, Kotido, Abim, and Kaabong in Karamoja, Karamojo Safari manages the Wildlife Reserves of Matheniko and Bokora, as well as wildlife in the Community Wildlife Areas of Karenga and Iriri, and communal land outside of Kidepo National Park.
This Agreement provides that 50% of the Daily Conservation fees for both Wildlife Reserves visitors (non-consumptive wildlife use) and hunters (consumptive wildlife use), and 75% of the Animal Fees from Sport Hunting , go directly to the local communities.
Our mission is to restore the wildlife decimated through decades of lawlessness, and turn the Wildlife Reserves into valuable tourist attractions. Sport Hunting is used as a Wildlife Management tool outside of the Reserves, and its proceeds are used towards Wildlife Conservation in the whole region.
Visit Uganda with our Wilderness Safaris, and you will have the unique opportunity to get first-hand experience on real African Wildlife Management!
